As a business, we’re looking for locations where hotel prices are highest as that is where we are able to add the most value. There’s so much depth to Miami that’s still undiscovered and our goal is to have hotels in every unique creative neighborhood in every market, as each neighborhood has a story to tell that our guests want to discover and belong to. At Life House we develop, design, brand and operate, while most chains do only a fraction. There is a tremendous amount of data that suggests that guests want experience-driven, locally-rooted lifestyle hotels, and that the traditional notion of a hotel chain is the antithesis of what travelers want today.
Full-service hotel management
Generally, the cost of halfway houses can range anywhere from $300 to $2,000 a month. Some people’s loved ones aid in their sober living costs while others use their personal savings or seek immediate employment. Lastly, select individuals may be eligible for scholarships or grants that can be applied toward their rent. Most halfway houses employ knowledgeable and compassionate staff who are able to monitor the daily activity of the residents. Additionally, these staff members provide encouragement and support to the residents. As a result, they make sure everyone has access to any needed outpatient care.
Outpatient Programs
They typically have house rules that residents must follow in order to stay in the home. These rules are designed to help residents stay sober, avoid triggers that could lead to a relapse, and prevent getting in the way of other house members’ sobriety. Some of the most common rules in sober living homes include maintaining sobriety, following a curfew, participating in household chores, and attending meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous.

We are creating them and offering them at a conscious price point that makes it accessible to all. By conscious price point, we mean that we are catering not only to those that can’t afford luxury hotels, but to those who want a luxury experience that they resonate with, but don’t want to feel like they overpaid for it. To add, public transportation within town provides easy access to our halfway houses. For those coming from out of town, Los Angeles offers a central location easily reached by car, plane, bus, and train. It is highly recommended teens and young adults remain in a halfway house for at least a year. This offers them the best chance at achieving emotional and physical recovery from addiction. In fact, those who participate in a long-term program at any age experience a generally higher success rate. We differentiate ourselves from other hotel companies with our business model and tech-first approach -- to my knowledge, we’re the only hotel company in the world with a co-founder who is a software engineer and CTO.
Halfway houses—also referred to as sober living homes—are residential homes that provide a drug-free and alcohol-free environment for people in early recovery. These houses are a transitional program for individuals who have completed an inpatient treatment program. Similarly, they are a housing option while patients are in an outpatient treatment program.
Life House currently manages the operations of close to 50 hotels in North America. At the time of its $30 million Series B in January of 2020, branded hotels made up about 50% of the startup’s portfolio. Our goal is to reset consumer expectations around what a hotel experience can be. One where people do not have to choose between the experience they want and what they can afford. New Life House’s success in working with young men began to take off once the guys began living with their own peers. Hotel pricing is quite seasonally dependent, but on average, we offer a 4.5 star experience, without the 4.5 star star price tag. We will always have a standard room type available at $149, but for our first couple of months we are offering rates as low as $109 to show the world what we’re all about. As mentioned above, we are able to do this because we are saving money on all of the other aspects of the business and we pass those savings on to the guests.
